Everything that you disclose about yourself will be treated as
confidential. No one will release your name, the information
gathered about you or your counselling, to anyone outside of Desiree
Leigh Incorporated without your written and voluntary consent. Some
exceptions apply which I am bound by law,

If you are at
risk at harming yourself or another resulting in injury or
death, it is my legal obligation to report this to the police to
ensure your or another’s safety.

If there is
knowledge of a child (under the age of 18) or an elder being
sexually, physically, and emotionally abused, neglected, or
anything resulting in risk to the child(ren) or elder, I am
legally obligated to report to the Ministry of Children and
Family Development and the police.
a. Sexual abuse: Any activity with a child occurring before the
age of legal consent that is for the sexual gratification of an
adult or a significantly older or dominant child. Examples
include touching breasts, genitals, and buttocks while the
victim is either dressed or undressed. Sexual abuse includes
exhibitionism, voyeurism, cunnilingus, fellatio, or penetration,
and pornographic photography of a child.
b. Physical abuse: Physical injury inflicted upon the child with
cruel and/or malicious intent. Some examples include shaking,
punching, kicking, beating, biting, burning, bruising,
poisoning, etc.
c. Emotional abuse: Children viewing constant conflict in the
home. Emotional needs not being met by the caretaker(s).
d. Psychological abuse: Encompasses rejection, ignoring,
criticizing, belittling, humiliating, and threatening, all of
which have the effect of eroding the child’s self-esteem and
sense of security. Signs and symptoms surface such as anxiety,
etc.

If the Ministry
of Children and Family Development are investigating the safety
of a child, I am obliged to cooperate and disclose information
received from client.

If I am
subpoenaed by court order, I am obliged to release my notes and
memory to a third party such as a lawyer.

5. Regular
debriefing with a counselling supervisor to continually improve
the effectiveness of my counselling is important. All
information will be kept to an absolute minimum (without real
names or area of residence) during such clinical consultations.
